Digital pianos bridge the gap between the traditional piano and the older technology of synthesizers and organs. Digital pianos provide the look and feel of traditional pianos with the convenience of modern features.

Most music schools, universities and professional musicians use digital pianos and are familiar with some of their advantages. Digital pianos are not “keyboards” and they are not “organs”. Digital pianos are a class of piano instrument entirely their own. In many digital pianos the nuances of sound and feel in a traditional acoustic piano are combined with a vast array of modern conveniences.

Fine digital pianos use numerous, exacting digital recordings of every note on a concert grand piano. When you play a key on your digital piano at home you will hear one of those recordings depending on which note you play and how hard you play it. This will allow you to play with all of the dynamic range (soft and loud) of a concert grand piano. Plus, digital pianos never need maintenance or tuning!

In addition to the amazing sound and feel of a fine digital piano, you may also choose from a host of fun, modern features. With a quality digital piano you can utilize features like:

  • playing in complete privacy using headphones
  • make digital quality recordings
  • use modern piano teaching software
  • play with a variety of wonderful instrument sounds (pianos, electric pianos, guitars, strings, human voices, orchestras ...)
  • instantly record and view your own sheet music
  • play along with an entire orchestra (using 1 finger if you wish!) and much more...

Not all digital pianos are equal. There are many products available which are termed as “digital pianos”. You will find vast differences in the quality of sound and keyboard feel between models and brands. A digital piano must sound and feel like a traditional piano in order to be enjoyed by piano players or be used for piano lessons.
